Refurbishment of the New Hawley Gallery at Kelham Island Museum
24-Jun-2010
RS Displays – Exhibition Stand Contractors and Museum fit-out Contractors based in Doncaster UK have just completed a major refurbishment of the New Hawley Gallery at Kelham Island Museum which has just been opened to the public on the 16th March 2010. The project has since been showcased in a seminar at the Museum & Heritage Show in London - The seminar focused on the short timescale & tight budget we had to work with, highlighting that our creative and inspiration skills were essential tools in creating a sustainable and flexible exhibition.
The Hawley collection is a unique collection of international importance. It displays tool making, cutlery manufacture and Silversmiths tools. Ken Hawley, Sheffield Tool retailer, collected the tools over his working lifetime started back in the 1950’s.
Musuem fit-out has become a natural specialism of RS Displays as a result of their 25 years experience in creating custom built exhibition stands for major worldwide companies.
Rob Stewart, Managing Director of RS Displays, said ‘We enjoy working in the Museum & Heritage sector just as much as the Exhibition Stand Industry. This project was special because it is so much a part of our local manufacturing history. Working with associates PLB Design enabled us to deliver an outstanding display for the Hawley Gallery that will bring pleasure and education to many people in future years.’
